Cranio-Sacral is a gentle non-invasive technique - principly indicating bodies are in large part self repairing mechanisms. As pressure is relieved on nerves and associated tissues the body settles into a natural state of balance – deep sleep often follows.

Cranio-Sacral is a system of Osteopathy that is concerned with the correct balance of the bones and body tissues, Particularly those of the skull and the pelvis. Cranio Sacral offers natural aid in the treatment of a wide and varied range of childhood health problems through the use of an exquisitely gentle technique that corrects imbalances, thereby assisting the body’s easy return to a state of health. The underlying belief is that the body is essentially self repairing by its miraculous design ~ every birth proves it ~ evident in the great ‘natural’ pressures induced on baby and mom

INTRO TO CRANIO-SACRAL

The body is a complex arrangement of tissues: muscle, ligaments, bone, nerves, blood vessels and a connective tissue called fascia, all of which interact. Normally there is a very gentle ebb and flow of body fluid - cerebral spinal fluid or ‘csf’ Proper fluid movement is basic to the health of the tissues. Cranio Sacral Practitioners observe the flow of csf Locating any restrictions by way of natural tensions resulting from imperfect flow. A very gentle (5 grams of pressure) allows the imbalance to return to a healthier state. Certainly many reasons can be cause for the development of such an imbalance, but those of importance to this article are childbirth and trauma.

BASICS OF BIRTHING

The pressure during late pregnancy and labor create natural changes in the soft bones of the skull and compact a baby’s head as much as possible to allow easy delivery through the birth canal. After birth; as a result of all natural forces created by every respiration, crying, breathing, suckling, etc the skull and pelvis unwind tension and the bones will ‘pop out’ into a natural shape. If however birthing your baby required assistance such as forceps, suction, pulling, turning the baby, or even just a difficult pregnancy or labor from moms perspective, then baby and mom will benefit greatly by removing any restriction to a natural flow of CSF as well as a structural alignment Cranio Sacral is known for

RATIONALE OF TREATMENT

Treatment is primarily concerned with twists and torsions of the bones of the skull and the pelvis. These imbalances affect the rest of the body through pressure on fluids & nerves, blood vessels and alternating tension in muscles, ligaments & fascia. Cranio Sacral releases unnatural pressure on nerves.

Ideally, from a Cranial-Osteopathic viewpoint, all babies are treated as soon as possible after birth, even if they appear outwardly ‘just fine’ All babies, including caesarian birth, have been exposed to some degree of force, even if only while in utero or during natural contractions.
